UK – Tong Engineering, a vegetable handling, grading, and sorting company has announced the completion of its takeover of Terry Johnson Ltd, situated in Holbeach, Lincolnshire.

According to a recent press release, this acquisition resonates strongly with Tong Engineering’s growth objectives, marking a seamless progression for both entities.

“This acquisition is rooted in long-term synergies and a deeply respectful relationship cultivated over time,” announced Tong Engineering.

Terry Johnson Ltd was founded in 1986 by Terry Johnson and initially sold the Todd sugar beet cleaner loader and the Bettison range of wheel equipment.

By 1987, the entire Johnson family was employed, including Terry’s wife Betty, daughter Mandy, and son Paul.

In 1994, the business obtained both the facility and the Swift Lift elevator and conveyor product line. Swift Lift Handling Equipment has created a reputation for high-quality mobile conveying and elevating equipment backed by exceptional customer service thanks to a devoted team and family values at its core.

“Tong Engineering and Terry Johnson Ltd have a long history of working together,” Edward Tong, Managing Director at Tong Engineering, declared.

According to him, both companies have always shared the same business values and thanks to the Johnson family their company’s legacy and products have been established.

“We are excited to welcome the Terry Johnson Ltd team to the Tong family and look forward to building upon the company’s existing relationships with its customers and subcontract clients, as well as expanding the reach of Swift Lift equipment to new customers in the UK and overseas,” Tong added.

Edward Tong will take over as Managing Director of both companies, while Teresa Morgan, the current financial Director at Tong Engineering, will expand her financial job across both companies.

Tong Engineering Sales Manager Richard Knighton will bring his many years of industry experience to the new purchase as General Manager, overseeing the commercial and product sides of the firm.

Tong’s dedicated aftersales branch, TongAssist, will also expand the Swift Lift aftersales offering.

Regarding the acquisition, Paul Johnson said that he is very pleased to be able to establish such a fitting future for his family business.

He expressed his confidence in Tong’s ability to provide great security and prospects for their employees and customers and shared his anticipation of working closely with the Tong team to ensure a smooth transition and handover.

“I would very much like to thank our staff and customers for their loyalty and support over the years,” Johnson mentioned.

In a timely fashion, Edward Tong noted that the conclusion of the acquisition precedes a pivotal event on their company’s calendar, the BP2023 British Potato event in Harrogate.

“We eagerly anticipate welcoming both our established and new clientele to our outdoor stands, alongside the Tong stands in Hall 1,” Tong expressed in conclusion.

The BP2023 stands as a paramount event within the industry, drawing participants deeply involved in various facets of the British potato industry and attracting attention from across the globe.

This biennial gathering brings together the entirety of the potato industry, creating a distinctive ‘seed to shopping trolley’ experience.
