tamu tamu tanzania announces dates for 2024 Open Farm Gate Days

TANZANIA – tamu tamu tanzania (ttt) is set to host its Open Farm Gate Days on November 22 and 23, 2024, offering the public an exclusive look into one of East Africa’s largest organic agriculture enterprises.

This event invites farmers, investors, and agriculture enthusiasts to experience first-hand the strides made in sustainable farming and apple production in the region.

Visitors to ttt will have the chance to explore the entire farm, which includes various business units.

Guided tours will showcase the farm’s apple orchards and tree nurseries, which have introduced over 50 apple varieties specifically adapted to the local climate.

The event will also feature free training sessions covering a range of topics. These include effective strategies for cash crop farming, livestock management, and processing techniques, as well as vital insights into route-to-market concepts. These sessions aim to provide valuable knowledge to both small-scale and commercial farmers.

ttt has made significant progress in developing its outgrower programs, which focus on replacing import crops and boosting the income of local farmers.

The Open Farm Gate Days will also include an agriculture roundtable, gathering industry stakeholders to discuss incentives for commercial investment in sustainable farming.

This roundtable aims to foster conversations around innovative farming methods and ways to scale up sustainable agriculture practices across Tanzania and East Africa.

A highlight of tamu tamu tanzania’s achievements is its recent official organic certification. This milestone demonstrates the farm’s dedication to sustainable practices, enhancing soil health, increasing biodiversity, and promoting community engagement.

Organic certification also means that the farm’s produce, including apples, has higher nutrient content and meets global standards for organic farming.

“This certification reflects our commitment to producing food that is both healthy for consumers and beneficial for the environment,” stated the farm’s representative. “We’re proud to be leading the way in sustainable farming practices in East Africa.”

The growing apple industry in East Africa

Tamu Tamu Tanzania has become a major player in apple farming, contributing to the growing apple production industry in East Africa. In Tanzania, regions such as the southwestern highlands are emerging as key apple-growing areas.

Other countries in the region, including Kenya and Uganda, are also making progress in local apple production.

Efforts are underway to reduce the region’s reliance on apple imports by increasing local production, with projections suggesting that well-managed apple orchards can yield over 100,000 apples per acre.

The development of the apple industry is expected to have a significant economic impact. By improving market access and distribution networks, the region can unlock new revenue streams for small-scale farmers while contributing to food security.
