NORTH AMERICA Sensient Natural Ingredients and US producer of salads and fresh foods Tailor Farms have made new acquisitions to expand their capacities in North America.

On its part, Sensient Natural Ingredients announced that it has completed its purchase of New Mexico Chili Products, a dehydrated chilli production facility in the US.

Located in Deming, New Mexico, the facility processes capsicums and a variety of specialty chillies for CPG food manufacturers, spice blenders and foodservice customers.

The new asset is a great addition to the company which already processes and supplies dehydrated vegetable products and natural food ingredients such as onion, garlic, and capsicums, as well as jalapeño, habeñero and chipotle.

“This acquisition aligns with our long-term business strategy to advance our leadership position in select growth categories, as well as fortify our robust supply chain,” said general manager of Sensient Natural Ingredients, Michael Finete.

Finete added that the new facility provided Sensiet with an opportunity to better serve its customers and satisfy the food industry’s increased demand for on-trend, value-added, natural, and organic ingredients that are sustainably sourced and traceable from farm to fork.

Taylor Farms buys FreshPoint’s Toronto operations

Further north in Canada, California-based Taylor Farms is expanding its fresh foods footprint, acquiring the Toronto operations of Sysco’s speciality produce subsidiary, FreshPoint in its wake.

Taylor Farms which produces salads and fresh foods for the North American market will leverage FreshPoint’s established fresh-cut vegetable operations to grow its presence in the country.

“We are excited to add our first operation in Canada to the Taylor Farms North American network and grateful to Sysco and FreshPoint for working closely with us to ensure a smooth transition for associates and customers,” said Bruce Taylor, chairman and CEO of Taylor Farms.

Mark Campion, president of Taylor Farms retail, will assume leadership responsibility for the Canadian facility.

Earlier in March, Tailor Farms became one of the first Diamond-level supporters to donate to the Center for Produce Safety (CPS) capital fundraising campaign, which began in late 2020 and was unveiled in January 2021.

Accroding to a statement from CPS, the funding will finance produce food safety research and the transfer of research learnings to industry, government, and other stakeholders throughout the next five years.

It is worth noting that Taylor Farms helped co-found CPS with Produce Marketing Association in 2007, contributing US$2 million, and donating another US$1.25 million to CPS’ 2015 campaign.

“Produce safety is important to us because one in three Americans enjoy Taylor Farms’ healthy, fresh foods every week,” explained Bruce Taylor, Chairman and CEO of Taylor Farms.

“It is critical that we continue to earn our consumers’ trust by producing very safe food. The future is in our collective hands. It is incumbent on us as an industry to do everything we can to win consumers’ trust.”
