SOUTH AFRICA – Fresh fruit exporters from South Africa are gearing up for the Fruit Logistica Berlin 2025 exhibition next month, February 5-7, 2025.
The event will provide an opportunity to build relationships with current markets and explore new possibilities for expanding their portfolios.
“The show provides a platform for exporters to meet existing, new, and potential clients from all over the world,” said Marletta Kellerman, marketing manager of the Fresh Produce Exporters’ Forum (FPEF).
“South Africa is the biggest exporter of fresh fruit in the southern hemisphere, exporting primarily to countries in the northern hemisphere due to counter-seasonality. The show offers an opportunity to retain markets and export volumes to Europe.”
The FPEF, a non-profit organisation with more than 160 members, has received support from the Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition to showcase South African produce at the event.
The South African National Pavilion at Fruit Logistica Berlin 2025 will feature a wide array of locally grown fruits from February 5-7, 2025.
While Europe remains South Africa’s largest export market, declining consumption in the region has urged the industry to pursue market diversification.
Kellerman notes, “We have a strong focus on gaining access to, and developing markets in, the Far East and Asia.”
Fruit Logistica Berlin is a major global event that covers all areas of the fresh produce business, from innovations and products to services along the supply chain.
The exhibition is a top platform for networking, with many European and international buyers attending. Over 66,000 visitors and 450 media representatives attended the 2024 event, making it a key event for industry professionals.
Approximately 50% of exhibitors secured business deals during the exhibition, with 90% of them reporting satisfaction with the follow-up business.
This year’s event is expected to provide similar opportunities for fruitful collaborations. The fair also features a program of events, including the Fresh Produce Forum and Future Lab, which highlight new trends and technological advancements.
Looking ahead to 2025, Fruit Logistica will continue to spotlight the latest trends and future developments in the fresh produce industry.
This year’s event will offer discussions on emerging trade patterns, sustainability efforts, and the impact of technological progress on the supply chain.
Attendees can expect to see new solutions aimed at tackling challenges such as climate change and food safety, alongside innovations to enhance supply chain efficiency.
