USA – The Oakland Board of Port Commissioners has elected Michael Colbruno as its new Board President in a unanimous vote.
This decision marks Colbruno’s return to the presidency, having previously held the position from July 2016 to July 2017.
Colbruno brings significant experience to the role, having joined the Port Commission in 2013. He has served in various leadership capacities, including Second Vice President on two occasions.
Notably, he is among the few openly gay Board members at a major U.S. seaport, adding to the diversity of the Commission.
“I’m honored and humbled to be elected by my fellow commissioners to President of the Board,” said Colbruno.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “I look forward to continuing our work, in partnership with our staff and community stakeholders on numerous initiatives that will help the Port of Oakland grow responsibly, promote jobs, and deliver positive economic impact while meeting our zero-emissions goals.”
Colbruno’s commitment to environmental issues has been a defining aspect of his career. As President, he aims to advance the Port’s efforts to achieve its zero-emissions targets.
“Sustainability is crucial for our future, and I am dedicated to leading initiatives that support these goals,” he added.
In addition to environmental concerns, Colbruno plans to attract new logistics operators to the Port. This strategy aims to enhance the Port’s maritime and real estate holdings, ultimately boosting business and supporting Oakland’s economy.
Alongside Colbruno, Andreas Cluver was elected First Vice President, succeeding Yui Hay Lee. Cluver, who joined the Port Board in 2016, previously served as President from 2020 to 2022.
He expressed enthusiasm for his new role, noting, “I look forward to working closely with Michael and Barbara to drive the Port’s initiatives forward.”
Barbara Leslie, the newly elected Second Vice President, remains a vital part of the leadership team. Leslie has a strong background in community leadership, serving as the President and CEO of the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.
“I am excited to continue our work together to enhance the Port’s contributions to our community,” she said.
The three officers will serve for the next 12 months, guiding a Board composed of seven members who are nominated by the mayor and appointed by the City Council. Each member serves without salary, demonstrating their commitment to the Port and the community of Oakland.
With a clear vision and a strong leadership team in place, the Oakland Board of Port Commissioners is set to tackle both environmental and economic challenges in the coming year.
