POLAND – McCain Foods has partnered with BNP Paribas Bank Polska to introduce a regenerative agriculture program aimed at supporting Polish potato farmers.

This initiative seeks to support potato growers in adopting sustainable farming practices, providing them with technical, commercial, and financial assistance.

Polish potato farmers face numerous challenges, including climate change, unpredictable weather, rising input costs, and regulatory uncertainties.

McCain Foods aims to address these issues through regenerative agriculture, which focuses on improving soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and reducing reliance on synthetic inputs.

The program is part of McCain’s global commitment to implement regenerative agricultural practices across 100% of its potato acreage by 2030.

“With potato yields decreasing across Europe and more extreme climate events, regenerative agriculture is essential for the resilience of our supply chain,” said Leslie Camus, Vice President of Agriculture at McCain Europe.

“It is McCain’s duty to build a robust support package to engage our grower partners in the transition, secure our long-term supply, and preserve ecosystems, biodiversity, and soil health.”

BNP Paribas Bank Polska, a leader in green transformation in Poland, supports the project by leveraging its expertise in sustainable financing.

At the end of Q3 2023, the bank’s sustainable financing amounted to PLN 8.9 billion, representing 9.8% of its total loan portfolio.

BNP Paribas has facilitated green transformation across various industries and participated in significant sustainable development transactions in Poland.

“We are proud to enter a partnership with McCain, one of the global leaders in the sustainable transition of the food value chain. Our cooperation will be multidimensional, thanks to our global presence and expertise,” said Szymon Bielawa, Director and Head of North America Corporates Coverage at BNP Paribas Bank Polska.
