Maersk unveils largest logistics park in the Middle East

SAUDI ARABIA – Maersk, one of the world’s leading logistics companies, has officially opened its largest logistics park in the Middle East at Jeddah Islamic Port, Saudi Arabia.

The new facility is set to boost Saudi Arabia’s logistics capabilities and support the nation’s growing economic activity.

The new logistics park, spanning 225,000 square meters, is part of a strategic collaboration with the General Ports Authority of Saudi Arabia (Mawani).

It was inaugurated in the presence of prominent officials, including Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, and Vincent Clerc, CEO of Maersk.

During the ceremony, Al-Jasser highlighted the significance of this development for Saudi Arabia. “The Saudi ports sector is witnessing major and unmatched advancements, particularly in terms of operational efficiency, international rankings, and increasing maritime connectivity with countries around the world,” he said.

The Minister emphasized that the Maersk logistics park at Jeddah Islamic Port would play a crucial role in bolstering economic activities, enhancing supply chains, and supporting the Kingdom’s trade and export efforts.

The Maersk logistics park is designed to offer fully integrated logistics solutions, providing multi-modal connectivity that links ocean, land, and air transport under one roof.

The facility includes advanced warehousing solutions catering to both B2B and e-commerce requirements.

Additionally, the park features temperature-controlled warehousing, a custom-bonded setup, and dedicated services for various industries, including fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), frozen food, automotive, retail, petrochemicals, electronics, and pharmaceuticals.

Vincent Clerc expressed his enthusiasm about the park’s opening, noting its alignment with Maersk’s global logistics strategy.

“The Maersk logistics park represents a significant milestone for Maersk. It is a testament to our commitment to being an enabler of global trade in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which sits strategically at the crossroads of three continents,” Clerc said.

He also emphasized the importance of the park in supporting customers with resilient logistics solutions and advancing Maersk’s decarbonization efforts.

In line with global sustainability trends, the logistics park will source up to 70% of its electricity from 32,000 solar panels installed on its 64,000 square meter rooftop.

The facility will also employ electric equipment and trucks and use energy-efficient LED lighting optimized with light sensors, contributing to its low carbon footprint.
