Kopke expands Westward with acquisition of Safco of America, R B Sandrini cold storage

USA – William H. Kopke Jr. Inc., a prominent player in fresh fruit distribution, has announced its latest strategic moves to bolster its operations on the West Coast.

The company has finalized the acquisition of R B Sandrini Cold Storage in Delano, California, and Safco of America operations in Visalia, California.

These acquisitions mark a significant step forward in Kopke’s mission to enhance its market presence and operational capabilities in key regions.

Safco of America, known for its robust supply chain of grapes, citrus, and cherries, brings a wealth of experience and a solid grower base to Kopke.

Mike Shuklian, continuing to lead Safco, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “Our business is ripe for growth, and with the Kopke network, we see so much potential.”

The sentiment was echoed by William Kopke of Kopke Jr. Inc., who emphasized the natural fit and shared vision driving the acquisition process.

The acquired R B Sandrini facility will undergo a transformation into the Kopke Distribution Center West (KDC West).

This state-of-the-art refrigerated distribution hub will enhance Kopke’s packing flexibility and expand its value-added product offerings.

The investment not only aims to solidify Kopke’s footprint in California but also serves as a launching pad for ambitious grape and citrus expansion plans across the state.

In tandem with its expansion efforts, Kopke welcomes Doug Rossi to its team, effective January 2024. Rossi, boasting 16 years of expertise in table grape sales management, joins Damon Francis in overseeing the West Coast operations.

William Kopke emphasized Rossi’s strategic fit, noting, “His leadership will undoubtedly enhance our ability to serve our partners and achieve our growth objectives.”
