Key Technology launches compass optical sorter for IQF products

USA – Key Technology has unveiled its Compass optical sorter designed for individually quick frozen (IQF) products, including fruits, vegetables, seafood, poultry, and meat.

This new sorter aims to enhance food safety and product quality by identifying and removing foreign materials and defects.

The Compass sorter offers simplified operation, cleaning, and maintenance, positioning it as one of the most user-friendly optical sorters available.

Jack Lee, President of Duravant Group’s Food Sorting and Handling Solutions, stated, “Processors often handle various products and frequently change them throughout the day. Compass’s intuitive interface and straightforward programming allow even novice operators to achieve top performance.”

Ideal for handling whole products, slices, dices, and crumbles, as well as product mixes, Compass uses in-air inspection to examine all sides of the product, eliminating blind spots.

It detects and removes contaminants such as plastic, glass, metal, stones, and extraneous vegetable matter like leaves and weeds. Additionally, it can be programmed to sort product mixes and ensure proper ingredient proportions.

The sorter is designed with an ergonomic user interface like modern smart devices, making it easy to navigate. Its open, washdown-compatible design facilitates easy cleaning and maintenance. “Compass’s design maximizes sanitation and simplifies maintenance,” Lee added.

Compass features recipe-driven programming that provides consistent sorting performance. This is especially beneficial for high-changeover applications, as operators can easily create or adjust sorting recipes without needing specialized support.

The sorter’s modular design comes in various sizes to accommodate different customer needs and capacities.

Equipped with Key Discovery, a comprehensive suite of data analytics and reporting software, Compass can analyze and share data about each object passing through the system.

This feature helps processors uncover patterns and trends, offering valuable insights into their operations and potentially improving overall efficiency.
