HarvestEye partners Agricar to expand market presence in Scotland

SCOTLAND – HarvestEye has gained a distributorship in Scotland through a partnership with agricultural and machinery company Agricar.

This move has accelerated its national goals in the grower, packer, and processor markets, machine-learning-driven agricultural insights tool.

Agricar will oversee distributing the HarvestEye 2.0 and HarvestEye Handheld systems before the harvesting season begins.

The system, which is compatible with harvesting or grading equipment, is a low-cost technique of providing visibility on the size, shape, and mapping variations of potatoes and onions through a web portal and daily reporting. It can measure crops quickly and accurately in adverse settings, such as low evening sun.

“As a premier supplier with vast experience on the needs and challenges facing Scottish farmers, Agricar is the ideal distributor to help scale our operation in Scotland. The relationship will provide visibility and ease of access to our units to support growers with their potato precision harvesting requirements,” Harry Tinson, general manager at HarvestEye, said.

HarvestEye’s Handheld version, which was released earlier this year, takes advantage of the system’s power and data intelligence to allow clients to count and size crops during pre-harvest test digs using a tablet device.

“At Agricar we see HarvestEye as an ideal long-term partner. The fact that we specialize in potato machinery and GPS products makes it a perfect fit for our product offering. HarvestEye is a relatively new product in the marketplace, but we feel that it can offer added value to the potato grower by giving the customer more accurate information earlier during harvest. This information can in turn be shared with the buyer or packhouses to help speed up and streamline the whole process,” Derek Johnston, director at Agricar, added.

HarvestEye capabilities from Agricar will be on display at the Royal Highland Show in Ingliston, Edinburgh from June 20–23. On August 8, at the James Hutton Institute in Invergowrie, Dundee, Agricar will return to Potatoes in Practices, the largest field-based potato event in the UK.

“This distributorship agreement with Agricar marks an exciting period for us in which we are establishing new partnerships with leading suppliers in their respective markets, as well as interacting with interested users on the ground, enabling more opportunities and flexibility to trial, feedback, and adopt the system,” Vidyanath (Vee) Gururajan, managing director of HarvestEye, concluded.

HarvestEye showcased its latest advancements at the Fruit Logistica 2024. Their Machine Learning-Driven crop insights tool provides visibility on crop size, shape, and mapping variability and is compatible with different varieties of onions in addition to potatoes.

Moreover, the company is launching a new handheld version that can be used to count and size crops pre-harvest during test digs.

HarvestEye aims to expand into new regions with distributorship opportunities.
