US – Fresh Del Monte has launched Rubyglow pineapples in the U.S. market this week after a successful initial launch in China in January.
These pineapples feature a striking deep red outer shell, bright yellow flesh, and a uniquely sweet flavor. This new variety of tropical fruit is now Fresh Del Monte’s most exclusive, high-end pineapple offering.
Rubyglow pineapples are available nationwide through select regional grocers and online specialty produce retailers.
The ultra-premium fruit targets high-end consumers and expands Fresh Del Monte’s lineup of innovative pineapple products. The company emphasizes the fruit’s appeal as a unique gift or a creative way to entertain guests.
“As the global leader in fresh pineapples, Fresh Del Monte offers an extensive lineup of different varieties, from traditional to extra sweet versions, in various sizes, and giftables like Pinkglow® pineapple,” stated Melissa Mackay, Vice President of Marketing, North America.
“Rubyglow is our latest showcase of innovation and leadership in this category with its bright red shell and sweet taste. It’s the ultimate exotic fruit, designed to impress.”
The Rubyglow pineapple is grown in Costa Rica and has a registered plant patent in the U.S. The fruit results from a cross between a traditional pineapple and a Morada variety, achieved through traditional crossbreeding techniques.
It takes two years to grow each Rubyglow™ pineapple, which then naturally ripens on the plant and is sold crownless in special packaging.
“The intricate growing process, distinctive color, sweet taste, and elegant packaging make Rubyglow an exquisite tropical fruit,” Mackay added. “We are excited to introduce this groundbreaking pineapple to North America.”
Fresh Del Monte emphasizes sustainability in planting, harvesting, and transporting Rubyglow™ pineapples, as with all their products.
Financial Update
Meanwhile, Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. has reported the financial results for the first quarter that ended in March 29, 2024.
Mohammad Abu-Ghazaleh, the company’s Chairman and CEO, stated, “We are pleased with the ongoing momentum in our higher-margin fresh and value-added segment. In the first quarter of 2024, this area of our business delivered 5% revenue growth, driven by our strategic initiatives around distribution, pricing, and premiumization.”
However, there were some challenges. Lower banana net sales due to volume and pricing, and lower net sales in other products and services affected overall net sales.
The quarter’s net sales reached USD 1,107.9 million, slightly down from USD 1,128.5 million in the prior-year period. Gross profit was also lower, impacted by production and procurement costs, as well as fluctuations in exchange rates.
Despite the decrease in net sales and gross profit, Fresh Del Monte continues to focus on operational excellence, cost discipline, and strategic capital allocation to improve profitability across all business areas.
The company aims to generate sustainable value for shareholders through its diverse product portfolio, strong brand recognition, and commitment to innovation.
