UAE – Emirates Flight Catering, a global aviation hospitality leader, has successfully acquired Bustanica, formerly known as Emirates Crop One, which is the world’s largest indoor vertical farm.

The strategic acquisition aims to boost the UAE’s commitment to enhancing food and water security while amplifying agricultural capabilities.

“This move underscores our dedication to local sustainability and innovation,” says Emirates Flight Catering Spokesperson.

“By fully owning Bustanica, we are poised to harness our extensive local expertise and cutting-edge technology to meet the escalating market demands.”

Situated adjacent to Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central, the expansive 330,000sqft Bustanica facility boasts an impressive annual capacity of over 1 million kilograms of high-quality leafy greens.

This production volume, equivalent to 3 tons daily, is achieved with a remarkable 95% reduction in water usage compared to conventional agriculture methods.

Customers across the UAE, including major retailers such as Spinney’s, Waitrose, Carrefour, and Choithrams, have access to Bustanica’s farm-fresh produce.

The greens are also featured in meals served on Emirates flights, aligning with the airline’s commitment to offering premium, locally sourced ingredients.

Since its inception in July 2022, Bustanica has gained prominence in UAE households, offering a diverse range of pristine leafy greens, herbs, and microgreens that are ready-to-eat straight from the box.

Notably, the produce is cultivated without the use of pesticides or herbicides, ensuring a 100% clean, fresh, and nutrient-rich product, including a variety of lettuce, spinach, parsley, and kale.

Driving Bustanica’s success is a robust combination of advanced technologies, including machine learning, artificial intelligence, and proprietary agricultural innovations.

The dedicated in-house team comprises agronomy experts, engineers, horticulturists, and plant scientists, contributing to the farm’s sustainable and efficient operations.

Emirates Bustanica’s recent recognition as a preferred produce supplier for COP28 underscores its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

The strategic move aligns with the UAE’s broader vision for a more resilient and self-sufficient food supply chain.
