EHPEA strengthens Ethiopian horticulture with member-focused initiatives

ETHIOPIA – The Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association (EHPEA) recently organized an engaging event aimed at showcasing its offerings to businesses and stakeholders within the horticulture industry.

This initiative highlights EHPEA’s commitment to elevating Ethiopia’s global standing in horticulture exports.

Founded in 2002, EHPEA has grown into a cornerstone of Ethiopia’s horticulture sector. The association now represents 126 members, including producers and exporters of cut flowers, fruits, vegetables, herbs, cuttings, and seeds.

Over the years, it has played a pivotal role in advancing the industry both domestically and on the international stage.

“EHPEA is dedicated to helping our members achieve international competitiveness,” said a representative at the event. “Our services are tailored to support businesses in addressing market challenges and ensuring sustainable growth.”

EHPEA membership comes with a host of benefits designed to foster growth and success. Members gain access to networking opportunities, enabling them to connect with key players across the industry.

They also receive insights into market trends, best practices, and regulatory updates. Additionally, EHPEA provides advocacy to ensure member interests are represented in policy discussions.

Another crucial benefit is business development support. This includes facilitating partnerships and collaborations among members.

EHPEA also emphasizes capacity building through workshops and seminars that cover critical topics such as environmental management, occupational safety and health, and corporate social responsibility.

Several EHPEA members shared their experiences during the event, underscoring the positive impact of the association’s efforts. “The policy advocacy provided by EHPEA has been instrumental,” one member noted. “They’ve helped us resolve land lease and tax issues, which has greatly improved our operations.”

EHPEA also supports members in obtaining certifications, providing guidance throughout the process. This includes pre-audits, document preparation, and follow-up assistance, ensuring members meet global standards.

“Their certification support has opened doors to international markets for us,” another member shared.

In 2024, EHPEA marked several key milestones, including resolving land lease disputes in Batu and Bishoftu and addressing tax-related concerns.

The association also revised incentive packages for importing capital goods and organized four public-private dialogue forums to tackle sector-specific challenges.

Additionally, EHPEA launched new training units and an e-learning platform, renewing its commitment to capacity building.

The association’s training center license was also renewed, further solidifying its role as an industry leader in skill development.

As Ethiopia’s horticulture sector continues to grow, EHPEA remains at the forefront, dedicated to supporting its members in achieving sustainable success.
