GERMANY – Eden Research has secured regulatory approval in Germany for its biofungicide Mevalone, enabling its use on grapevines and apples to manage Botrytis and prevent storage diseases.
“Today’s news marks the fourth significant regulatory announcement over the past 12 months,” stated Sean Smith, CEO of Eden Research.
“This approval is a major step for our corporate growth strategy, providing an additional market entry opportunity that is expected to boost revenue within three years.”
Germany’s approval is especially noteworthy due to the country’s high incidence of fungal diseases, particularly in the cooler climates where wine grapes and apples are cultivated.
“It’s encouraging to see the German regulator support products like Mevalone, as German farmers, like their counterparts across Europe and the UK, face increasing challenges from the removal of conventional pesticides,” Smith added. “Mevalone offers a sustainable option to help protect crops, yields, and profits.”
Eden Research plans to collaborate with SumiAgro Germany to fine-tune its commercial approach for the upcoming growing season.
Bioinsecticide trials show strong results
In addition to the Mevalone approval, Eden Research has reported promising outcomes from its trials of a new bioinsecticide.
The product has undergone extensive testing in over 30 laboratories and 140 field trials across Europe and the US. The trials focused on pests such as aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies.
The results demonstrated that the new bioinsecticide is highly effective against all life stages of these pests.
“The trials show extremely promising efficacy and consistency in combating pests that critically impact crop yields,” said Smith.
“This is an exciting development in our effort to offer sustainable solutions to farmers while advancing our product diversification and business growth.”
With up to 40 percent of crops lost each year due to pests and diseases, and the UN projecting a need for 50 percent more food by 2050, effective pest control is crucial.
Conventional insecticides face growing regulatory scrutiny due to their environmental impact, including harm to bees and other beneficial insects.
Eden Research’s bioinsecticides offer a viable alternative, promising ease of use, effectiveness, and environmental safety.
