GLOBAL – DP World has acquired 47,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), a move set to significantly expand its cargo-handling capacity.

The acquisition marks the company’s first major purchase of containers, registered and branded under DP World’s name.

This step is expected to provide customers with better access to critical container capacity, ensuring smoother operations during periods of peak demand.

The new containers will allow DP World to better manage delivery schedules and reduce the risk of delays, making supply chains more resilient.

An official statement from DP World emphasized how the acquisition will enable the company to respond quickly to changing customer needs.

The containers are part of the company’s broader efforts to maintain seamless operations, especially when demand spikes or unexpected disruptions occur.

Ganesh Raj, Global Chief Operating Officer, Marine Services at DP World, explained the benefits of the purchase: “Supply chains today face increasing pressures from all sides. With the addition of 47,000 TEUs to our existing network, we aim to provide our customers with the capacity they need to move goods efficiently and without unnecessary delays.”

“This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of our customers in a fast-moving commercial landscape.”

DP World’s existing assets span various areas of logistics, including vessels, ports, economic zones, and warehouse facilities across 78 countries on six continents.

The acquisition will further enhance the company’s capacity in these regions, allowing for better control over its supply chain.

DP World Dakar joins Portchain Connect network

In addition to expanding container capacity, DP World is also investing in digital solutions to streamline operations.

Recently, DP World Dakar announced its integration into the Portchain Connect network, which will enable the port to enhance communication with carriers through secure data sharing.

This digital platform allows for real-time updates and quicker alignment of vessel schedules with terminal berth plans.

The collaboration with Portchain aims to optimize logistics processes by ensuring smooth communication between ports and carriers.

The platform’s real-time data-sharing capabilities help reduce the time it takes to align vessel schedules, improving overall efficiency.

According to a DP World Dakar planning team member, “Our partnership with Portchain reflects our shared goal of improving logistics through data and collaboration. This platform will allow us to handle scheduling more effectively and minimize disruptions.”
