NETHERLANDS – Chrysal, a leader in flower care, is set to present its latest sustainable flower care solutions at the Flora Holland Trade Fair (FHTF) in Aalsmeer from November 5–7.
As the horticultural industry increasingly focuses on sustainability, Chrysal aims to support efforts throughout the entire flower supply chain, from growers to consumers.
Beginning in 2024, Chrysal will transition all its consumer packaging to recyclable alternatives. This move supports customers’ sustainability goals and aligns with upcoming regulations.
The company’s packaging solutions utilize recyclable materials to contribute to a circular economy. Key features include consumer sachets made from recyclable substances and plastic jerrycans and bottles that are already recyclable.
Additionally, Chrysal’s carton boxes are composed of 80–100% recycled materials, with plans to shift to entirely recyclable and FSC-certified cartons soon.
Chrysal proudly claims that its flower food formulas are 99% bio-based, created from renewable plant-derived raw materials.
This commitment to sustainable ingredients further enhances the company’s focus on environmentally friendly practices.
One significant challenge in the flower industry is maintaining freshness during long transportation periods. Chrysal’s Sea Freight & Long Storage service provides a unique postharvest treatment that preserves freshness while controlling Botrytis, a common threat to flowers during extended storage.
“This service allows flowers to be shipped by sea or stored for weeks, matching market supply and demand,” a company representative stated. This solution is particularly beneficial for growers and transporters who need to ensure the flowers arrive in optimal condition.
In response to the need for reducing environmental contaminants, Chrysal has developed the Fyt ‘n Fyx Grower Program after years of research and testing. This program offers growers proactive solutions for maintaining healthy flowers in the field.
“Our approach delivers sustainability across the entire flower chain, from growers to consumers,” the spokesperson added. This comprehensive program reflects Chrysal’s commitment to environmental responsibility while ensuring the highest quality for flowers.
In addition to its upcoming presentation at the FHTF, Chrysal recently launched transport stickers designed to keep flowers fresh during long transport times.
These innovative stickers release active ingredients when humidity levels exceed 60%, which is common during dry transportation. “These stickers offer a simple yet effective way to maintain the quality of flowers in transit,” a Chrysal representative explained.
The stickers are easy to apply, making them ideal for growers, bouquet makers, and transporters who want to ensure their products reach consumers in peak condition.
