Chrysal launches transport stickers to keep flowers fresh for longer

NETHERLANDS – Chrysal, a global leader in flower care, has introduced a new solution to address a key challenge for flower growers: maintaining flower freshness during long periods of transport.

The company has developed the Chrysal Transport Stickers, a product designed to preserve the quality of cut flowers during transit, ensuring they arrive in perfect condition for consumers.

One of the biggest difficulties flower growers faces is keeping flowers fresh while they travel from farm to market. The journey is often long, and conditions are typically dry, which can greatly affect the quality of cut flowers.

Chrysal’s new transport stickers aim to solve this problem by ensuring that flowers remain in top condition despite the lengthy shipping process.

These adhesive stickers are engineered to release active ingredients when humidity levels exceed 60%, a common issue when flowers are transported dry in boxes.

“These stickers offer a simple, yet innovative, way to maintain the quality of flowers while they are in transit,” a Chrysal spokesperson explained.

“They are easy to apply and effective, which makes them ideal for growers, bouquet makers, and transporters who need to ensure their products reach their final destination in peak condition.”

The Chrysal Transport Stickers are designed for easy use. Growers and transporters can quickly attach them inside flower boxes.

Once placed, the stickers work by gradually releasing their ingredients when the humidity rises, safeguarding the flowers’ freshness throughout the transportation process.

As a result, flower waste is reduced, and the vase life of the flowers is extended, providing retailers with a longer sales window.

Made from recyclable LDPE material, the stickers are compact in size, measuring 2.5 x 5.0 cm. Despite their small footprint, they offer significant protection for flowers, ensuring minimal space is required for storage while still providing maximum benefits.

Each pack of stickers is supplied in a resealable bag, allowing for flexible dosing depending on the size of the flower box. This adjustability ensures the best possible results for different shipments.

The Chrysal Transport Stickers will be available in Colombia starting in summer 2024. They will also be showcased at the IFPA Global Produce & Floral Show in Atlanta, USA, from October 16-19, 2024.

The launch marks a significant step in helping the floral industry reduce waste and improve product longevity during the often-difficult transport process.

In addition to the product launch, Chrysal recently appointed Johan ten Haken as its new Sales Manager for Europe. Johan joined the company in October 2023 as Retail Account Manager, bringing more than 20 years of experience in the flower industry.

His background in operations management and his extensive industry knowledge will help Chrysal continue to grow and strengthen customer relationships across Europe.

Chrysal, which celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2024, is also reinforcing its commitment to sustainability. The company aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2030, a goal that aligns with its broader mission to reduce its carbon footprint and support a more sustainable economy.

In partnership with Ecochain, Chrysal has conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to analyze the environmental impact of its products and operations in the Netherlands and Africa.

This assessment will guide the company in making more sustainable choices as it continues to lead the flower care industry.
