INDIA – Leading Peruvian blueberry producer Camposol has teamed up with Ninjacart, an agri-startup backed by Walmart, to introduce high-quality blueberries to Indian consumers.
Camposol announced that this partnership aims to transform the blueberry market in India by utilizing Ninjacart’s digital marketplace, tech-enabled supply chain, and data-driven approach.
“Leveraging Ninjacart’s extensive network of over 100,000 retailers, the partnership ensures a reliable and consistent supply of high-quality blueberries, benefiting consumers and retailers alike,” the companies stated.
The collaboration is set to enhance Camposol’s operational stability in India, providing faster market access to more cities and consumers through data-driven insights.
“Ninjacart also guarantees end-to-end traceability, enhancing transparency in the safety and origin of premium blueberries for consumers,” the two companies confirmed.
The partnership was formalized with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on 17 July during an event in India.
Sergio Torres, senior vice-president for commercial operations at Camposol, expressed confidence in the collaboration, stating, “Ninjacart’s strong presence and deep understanding of the Indian consumer will be invaluable in establishing Camposol as a leading supplier of blueberries in India.”
“Their extensive distribution network means consumers across India will have easy access to fresh and premium blueberries through over 100,000 retail outlets.”
Sharath Loganathan, co-founder and head of international business of Ninjacart, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the startup’s enthusiasm for the partnership.
“As the largest Peruvian exporter of blueberries, Camposol’s vertically integrated operations ensure top-quality produce is delivered efficiently across their operations,” he commented.
“Our strong connections with kirana stores, supermarkets, modern trade outlets, e-commerce/quick commerce platforms, and Horeca partners enable global brands to seamlessly reach premium customers.”
The joint statement highlighted that blueberries had shown significant growth in India in recent years, yet a notable supply gap exists between imported seasonal consumption and domestic production.
This gap is primarily due to limited international exporter access to Indian consumers, who predominantly shop at traditional mom-and-pop stores.
The collaboration aims to enhance awareness and adoption, driving growth in the segment. “This strategic alliance aims to enhance awareness and adoption, driving growth in the segment,” the groups highlighted.
“The collaboration ensures a steady and reliable supply, meeting the rising demand among Indian consumers.”
Camposol’s blueberries will be accessible through Ninjacart’s network, which includes partnerships with major e-commerce platforms and city-level retail presence.
The companies added, “Leveraging Ninjacart’s efficient supply chain to minimize wastage, these blueberries will be competitively priced.”
This partnership is envisioned as a long-term collaboration aimed at establishing a sustainable blueberry supply chain across India.
The U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council (USHBC) Export Committee has also increased funding for market development in India, focusing on food manufacturing and retail sectors where demand for dried and processed blueberries is rising.
