NETHERLANDS – Effective August 1, 2024, Camillo Fontana will assume the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT), based in Rotterdam.
This move marks a significant step in the company’s strategic plans to enhance financial management as it pursues ambitious growth objectives.
Fontana brings over 15 years of experience in finance within the container shipping and logistics sectors. He previously held key positions at Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), including Finance Manager in Geneva, Regional CFO of Asia and the Middle East in Singapore, and most recently, CFO of Medlog S.A., MSC’s land-logistics arm. His extensive background makes him a valuable addition to HGT’s executive team.
Dheeraj Bhatia, Chief Terminal and Infrastructure Officer of Hapag-Lloyd and CEO of Hanseatic Global Terminals expressed enthusiasm about Fontana’s appointment.
“We are delighted that with Camillo we have found a very experienced financial expert to be the new CFO of Hanseatic Global Terminals. We have ambitious growth plans with Hanseatic Global Terminals, and we will be making major investments in quality, efficiency, and sustainability to benefit our customers. It will therefore be crucial that we manage the related financial aspects in the best way possible,” Bhatia said.
Hapag-Lloyd welcomes new apprentices
In related news, Hapag-Lloyd has welcomed 66 new apprentices in Hamburg. This intake includes individuals training in traditional maritime roles such as ship mechanics and assistant officers, as well as those pursuing shore-based professions like shipping agents.
Additionally, 17 dual work-study students will undertake bachelor’s degrees at Hamburg School of Business Administration or Nordakademie University of Applied Sciences.
Among the new trainees, 14 ship mechanics began their journey earlier this year and recently completed a voyage on the “Chicago Express,” one of Hapag-Lloyd’s training vessels.
This voyage is a distinctive feature of the company’s training program, which prepares seafarers for future careers on the open seas.
Donya-Florence Amer, Chief Information and Human Resources Officer at Hapag-Lloyd highlighted the significance of this initiative.
“We are excited to welcome a new generation of maritime logistics talent and seafarers to Hapag-Lloyd. We are proud to support young people in their career paths in maritime logistics,” Amer stated.
“Our diverse training programmes offer a range of perspectives, whether in the office, in the technical field, or on the high seas, and provide a pathway into an exciting, global industry.”
