USA – Azzule, a global provider of data management solutions focused on enhancing food safety and sustainability practices, has introduced a new Integrated Pest Management (IPM) module within its PrimusGFS audit certification program.
This new module boosts sustainability in the fresh produce industry and addresses evolving food safety demands.
It is an optional add-on to the existing PrimusGFS audit, designed to enhance sustainability practices without affecting core food safety topics.
PrimusGFS recognizes the challenges faced by its auditees in balancing customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and operational demands. To address these, Module 9 offers tools to support the implementation of IPM practices within the supply chain.
Azzule, the organization behind PrimusGFS, has made this module available to Certification Bodies at no cost.
“We’re committed to helping farmers preserve their land for future generations,” revealed the company in a release “By offering advanced AI tools and resources, we aim to document and highlight sustainable practices effectively.”
As consumer demands for environmental sustainability grow, retailers are prioritizing IPM programs in their supply chains. This shift encourages the adoption of sustainable practices among producers, helping them gain a competitive edge.
Friends of the Earth, a leading environmental advocacy group, developed the Bee-Friendly Retailer Scorecard to assess and promote the reduction of pesticide use. This scorecard highlights the proactive steps retailers are taking to address environmental and health concerns related to pesticides.
PrimusGFS Module 9 was developed in response to retailer demands, enabling producers to validate their commitment to IPM alongside their Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) audits.
This module focuses on creating a robust IPM plan at the grower level, including practices for identifying and managing pests, preventing disease buildup, and using lower-risk products.
The growing acceptance of Module 9 by top retailers makes PrimusGFS a cost-effective choice for IPM verification. By aligning with retailers’ expectations, producers can ensure compliance and capture market share among environmentally conscious consumers.
To alleviate industry-wide concerns about rising costs, Azzule offers Module 9 at no cost. Azzule provides complimentary tools to build IPM programs, prepare for audits, and reduce documentation review time. These resources include templates, logs, and a mobile app for documenting field practices.
“Our goal is to simplify the process of managing IPM programs,” added the PrimusGFS representative. “With our tools, producers can efficiently navigate IPM requirements and meet demands for environmental stewardship.”
Operational-level evaluation of IPM programs, as modeled by PrimusGFS, ensures that sustainable practices are not only documented but also implemented effectively.
This approach helps combat greenwashing and confirms the efficacy of IPM practices through validation of pest monitoring, crop inspections, and pest control methods.
Looking ahead, the role of well-documented IPM practices will be crucial in shaping a responsible and environmentally conscious agricultural future.
PrimusGFS is dedicated to supporting producers with tools and resources to adapt to the evolving landscape of food safety and sustainability.
“Our commitment to enhancing program management extends beyond IPM,” concluded the release. “We aim to support our clients as they work to improve the safety, quality, and sustainability of food products worldwide.”
