CANADA – Avocados From Mexico has partnered exclusively with national supermarket chain Sobeys to introduce new packaging in Québec and the Maritime provinces.
Starting this month, Avocados From Mexico will launch its new packaging in over 300 supermarkets across these two Canadian provinces.
The packaging features AvoGlow colour, a unique hue officially developed by Pantone. The design serves as an informative tool for consumers, offering tips on preserving and ripening avocados and a QR code directing recipes.
This initiative addresses the hesitation of over 37% of surveyed consumers unfamiliar with avocados.
Miguel Barcenas, Head of International Markets Marketing for Avocados From Mexico, stated, “Avocados From Mexico is dedicated to supporting innovative in-store initiatives aimed at enhancing the customer experience and introducing consumers to new ways of enjoying avocados.
“We thank Sobeys for their commitment to elevating consumer experiences by exclusively displaying our bags, exemplifying their dedication to providing exceptional offerings.”
In a related initiative, Fresh Direct, in collaboration with avocado supply partner Westfalia Fruit, recently introduced new plastic-free packaging for its best-selling avocado twin-pack.
This marks the first time the paper-based pack has been utilized in the foodservice industry. The packaging, crafted from actively managed, FSC-approved sources, ensures forests are regenerated as trees are replanted, making it fully recyclable.
The co-branded twin packs are designed to wrap around the avocados, providing an additional layer of protection to maintain product quality upon delivery.
Paul Nieduszynski, CEO of Sysco GB, Fresh Direct’s parent company, emphasized the significance of this change, “This is another step in our journey to reduce our environmental impact and builds on other recent successes such as the removal of 50 tonnes of plastic from our berries packaging, helping us to continue to lead the foodservice sector.”
Nieduszynski highlighted the importance of incremental changes in achieving broader environmental goals, “While the major initiatives like our electric vehicles or solar installations may grab the headlines, it’s the work like this that our teams are doing day in and day out that’s also making a real difference.”
Both initiatives by Avocados From Mexico and Fresh Direct demonstrate the industry’s commitment to innovative and sustainable packaging solutions that enhance consumer experiences while reducing environmental impact.
