EUROPE – Agroberries, a leading global berry grower and marketer, has completed the acquisition of BerryWorld Group, Europe’s largest berry marketer.
This move positions Agroberries as the second-largest berry company in the world, significantly expanding its market influence.
The acquisition follows Agroberries’ earlier investment in BerryWorld’s operations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific.
With this full acquisition, Agroberries now boasts an annual production of 150,000 tonnes of berries, spread across 3,000 hectares of owned land and a network of growers in 30 countries.
The company’s strategic expansion allows it to tap into new markets while strengthening its presence in existing ones.
Jorge Varela, co-founder and CEO of Agroberries, described the deal as a landmark moment for both companies. “This transaction is a major step forward in our combined 58 years of history. It strengthens our capabilities and gives our customers year-round access to more proprietary berry varieties while offering new end-markets to our growers,” Varela said.
BerryWorld co-founder and CEO, Adam Olins, echoed Varela’s sentiments, emphasizing that the partnership will elevate the company’s operations.
“After working together for some time, it’s clear that Agroberries shares our passion for delivering top-quality berries and a commitment to sustainability. Together, we will continue setting new standards in the berry industry,” Olins said.
Agroberries has built a strong reputation for its sustainability practices and proprietary breeding programs.
By combining forces with BerryWorld, the company will continue to leverage its marketing platforms and distribution centers to ensure high-quality produce reaches retailers and consumers worldwide.
The deal also paves the way for further expansion, both organically and through future acquisitions.
Continental Grain Company (Conti), Agroberries’ largest investor, has also increased its stake in the company following the acquisition.
Carlos Poblete, co-head of Conti Direct Investments, remarked, “Agroberries’ diverse production base, coupled with its strong marketing platforms, will continue driving innovation and delivering top-quality berries across the globe.”
The global fresh berries market is expected to see significant growth, increasing from USD 26.56 billion in 2024 to USD 31.86 billion by 2029.
North America remains the largest market for fresh berries, while the Asia-Pacific region is forecast to experience the fastest growth.
Popular varieties such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and cranberries are seeing a steady rise in demand due to their health benefits, including antioxidants that help prevent chronic diseases.
