KENYA – Shamba Pride, an agri-tech startup, has launched a 10,000 square foot supply chain center in Kenya.
This new facility aims to enhance the company’s ability to fulfill orders for agro-dealers and farmers, contributing significantly to its growth plans.
Shamba Pride connects smallholder farmers with quality inputs, services, and information through its technology-driven “DigiShops.”
The company’s goal is to increase its network from 2,900 active agro-dealers to 8,000 over the next 24 months. The new supply chain center is a crucial step in achieving this objective.
The opening of the supply chain center follows a successful funding round in which Shamba Pride raised USD 3.7 million in pre-Series A debt and equity financing.
This funding round was led by EDFI AgriFI, the EU Agriculture Financing Initiative, and included contributions from Seedstars Africa Ventures.
EDFI AgriFI provided a long-term loan of USD 2 million, while Seedstars Africa Ventures committed an additional USD 1.7 million in equity.
In 2021, Shamba Pride secured USD 1.1 million in funding from Seedstars Africa Ventures and Gray Matters Capital. The recent USD 3.7 million raise builds on this earlier investment and is intended to support the company’s expansion in Kenya and the development of additional services.
Shamba Pride CEO Samuel Munguti expressed excitement about the new investment and its potential to drive growth. “EDFI AgriFI joined this growth journey through an investment that propels Shamba Pride towards its vision of positively impacting the lives of some 200,000 farmers by the end of 2025.”
“The company has already grown its outreach by 10x since 2021 to reach over 220 shops, and the additional equity investment from Seedstars Africa Ventures alongside a trusted institutional financial institution is a significant milestone for the company to become a regional champion and a trusted brand for the industry,” Munguti said.
The new supply chain center will allow Shamba Pride to source agricultural inputs in bulk, offering cost savings and ensuring a steady supply of quality products to farmers.
The financing will also support the development of the company’s franchise network, further extending its reach and impact.
The combination of a robust supply chain infrastructure and strong financial backing positions Shamba Pride to make a lasting difference in Kenya’s agricultural sector.
